Mulching is the best way of clearing land that is covered in gorse, blackberry, woolly nightshade (tobacco weed), privet, or any other weeds. This is done by running a large spinning drum covered in large teeth over the weeds which break them down into small pieces on the surface. The mulcher head can be PTO powered by tractors to cover flat land efficiently, or hydraulically powered by excavators for working on steep terrain.
Why not just spray the gorse and burn it?
This used to be a popular option, but gorse seeds can lie dormant in soil for years and burning the surface product can actually help them germinate quicker causing more future growth. Mulching the surface gorse can actually discourage the germination process further by creating a layer of decomposing material on the surface. Once the surface growth is mulched down, the young growth can be sprayed after one to two months which is the time it is most susceptible to the spray effect. Straight away this saves $$ in spray, and your land is almost instantly clear.
“About a year ago, I got Aarons Contracting Ltd to chop down and mulch some really big gorse bushes and woolly nightshade plants covering about 5ha of a piece of land I had just bought near Puhoi. Aaron did the job very well and finished on time. He is a wonderful person to deal with and his prices are very reasonable. I am happy to recommend Aarons Contracting Ltd to anyone since Aaron is a straightforward, honest and hardworking guy who will go that extra mile to make sure his customer is happy.”
